Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Best Performance of Estimated Prophet in the last ten years of the Band? You tell me- 9-22-93

This show, if one knows about it, is often referred to as having a magnificent Birdsong- which it does- but folks- the real deal with Davidy Murray is his playing on Estimated Prophet- the last 3 minutes of the jam turn into a free jazz triumph- with Murray soaring and Jerry mumbling underneath him until they both start reaching greater heights- Phil and Brent join in and the chaos is exquisite-

I love how Murray reacts to Bobbys yelps in his vocal solo- the tone of his horn is perfect for this- listening to this- I wonder what everyone sees in Branford? I guess to each their own- but this dude is the real deal improviser- and the short dark star jam that comes out of this also works

I just got 10-15-89 and it has one of the coolest Estimated's I've heard regardless of year. I'll check out your pick too though, sounds interesting.

try LA 1994 with branford. may seem like a safe choice but this version is drastically differrnt than the others performed by the B-man. If you did not look at the setlist you'd swear they were heading for drums but they shift into he's gone. A very spacy Estimated if that's your thing

Ya, that's awesome. But Brent had been dead for a few years at this point, so he didnt get to join in on any fun. (i'm sorry, i couldnt resist pointing it out)

Sorry you restricted to the last 10 years.

I would offer the first EVER Eyes > Estimated....Estimated
